War of the worlds
In 1948 Agnes Moorhead performed one of the best examples of a radio drama to date.
its about a women played by Moorhead acidently listening into a phone call between 2 gangsters who were planning a murder in the next 30 minutes in the rest of this story shows Moorheads increasingly desperate attempt to find Someone on the phone to help stop the murder but has an incredible twist ending.
The lamp
the lamp is a radio drama from BBC 4 when a Mum a grandfather and child move into a house witch is haunted by a ghost of a crying child which then calls for the living childs death for im to join anjd play with him and at the end the child dies of a lung illness and joins the dead child in the after life. The sounds used in this recording especially when you can hear the dead child crying for his dead father freaked me out and made you feel very freaked out
Conclusion for this analysis
what both of these analysis tells me the way to a successful radio drama is thought the use of Foley sounds and the mic tecniguyes used ot give the feeling of spacing through a audio visual pre sence as you have to work this in because as this is a radio drama you cant use a visual format as its radio and most people would only be listening to it.
The iranian embasey siege
for inspiration i looked into the iranian embassey siege which took placer in 1980 where a group of iranian nationalist took the london iranian embassey and took hostages and demanded the release of captured terroists for the hostages lives.
this was met with a 6 day siege of the building resulting with one dead hostage and the public reveal of the UK special force group the SAS which is made from the best of the best of the united kingdom military.
This has been one of the only majour hostage situation in the UK so when looking at attacks this stood out to me and i plan to use the events present in this event in my drama.
How this contributes to my idea
thanks to the analysis and the reasearch i have done to create my idea, i have figured out a storyline that takes inspiration from both the radio drama War of the Worlds and the Iranian embasey siege i have also used some influence of the events of the 7/7 bombing as it uses public historical sites as bomb sites so thats were my idea of the tower of london scene comes from
The war of the worlds is one of the most successfull and well known radio shows ever made as it was so believable it caused outrage to the listeners as they thought it was real and that the earth was being invaded.
It was written by H G Wells and was broadcasted by CBS radio in 1938 on the 30th October it was sucessful due to the foley sound used as it was sounded so real it caused outrage with the listeners as they thought that this was an attack on the human race and that earth was actualy invaded.
